Happy Father’s Day & My Thoughts on Spirit of the Marathon II

I know it’s been half a week already, but I have been crazy busy with doctor appointments and job interviews this past week! (more on that later)  Guess it’s just as well I post my thoughts on SOTM2 today because I got to go see it with my daddy!  Happy Father’s Day to the best daddy in the world!! :)

First of all I just want to thank Fathom Events for the passes to go see Spirit of the Marathon II in exchange for writing about it on my blog!

My dad ended up going with me and we got there about half an hour early… we were the only ones in the theater until about 6:55 and then a couple more people showed up and then a lot more people showed up about 5 minutes after the movie started.  Before the movie started there were marathon trivia questions popping up on the screen, so that was fun and definitely helped pass the time.

Upon the Greek victory over the Persians in 490 B.C., legend says that soldier Pheidippides ran 25 miles from the battlefield in Marathon, Greece, to Athens to deliver the news. After he arrived, Pheidippides yelled out, "Rejoice, we are victorious,” then collapsed and died (source).

This movie starts out the morning of the marathon with the 7 runners getting ready to leave for the race and then starts in to the introductions of each one of the seven runners and we get to hear each of their story’s.  Spirit of the Marathon II takes us on a journey with these 7 runners as they prepare for the Rome Marathon and interjects little snippets of the actual race periodically throughout with more of the race towards the end of the movie.

From the very beginning I was loving it!!  I laughed, I cried, I gasped and often times nodded my head in agreement or knowing exactly how each runner was feeling!  It’s a very inspiring movie not only for the veteran or beginner runner, but also for those who aspire and dream of one day running a marathon of their own or even to just start running!

**Insert whining here** I WANT TO BE BACK OUT THERE RUNNING THE ASPHALT!! ugh!  I can’t stand not running… and this movie made it that much harder to be sidelined with a knee injury right now… totally sucks!  Why me!?!?  **End of rant**… for now! ;) mwahahaha!!! ahem…

My dad loved the movie too, which I’m glad! I didn’t want him to be bored sitting through a running movie when he doesn’t run (he bikes)… But, he liked it a lot! After the movie ended there was a featurette about Team World Vision… it’s a great cause so click on the link and go look it up!

Then, after we watched Spirit of the Marathon II… by the way, now I need to watch the first one! lol… we headed to Max & Ermas (my first time ever) for a little grub… just so happens it was “Free Cookie Wednesday” (BEST.NIGHT.EVER!)

Freecookiewednesday

We headed out with full bellies… we did have enough self-control to save a cookie for our spouses… since we each got three cookies! lol ;)  It was a great night spent with my dad and I truly loved the movie even though it made me feel worse about being injured! ;)

A Runner’s Perfect Date Night

I don’t know about you all, but for me, the perfect date night would be running, foam rolling together, and recovering with some Rocky Road ice cream and a cheese stick…

BUT, unfortunately I am still injured (update coming soon) and so the next perfect thing would be watching a movie about running!  If that sounds like the perfect night out to you, you’re in luck!!  This week, on Wednesday only,  Fathom Events is releasing The Spirit of the Marathon II: Rome in select theaters near you!  It’s a one night special event in select theaters nationwide (click here to check for a theater near you).

Here’s a snippet from the official website:

From the filmmakers who brought you the award-winning documentary Spirit of the Marathon comes the highly anticipated sequel: Spirit of the Marathon II.
Featuring the personal journeys of a new cast of seven athletes as they run the iconic streets of Rome, Italy, the film also includes interviews with marathon greats such as Stefano Baldini, Paula Radcliffe, Frank Shorter and many others.
An entirely new running adventure,
Spirit of the Marathon II expands on the first film looking further into this legendary event, its significance in people's lives and ultimate impact on society.

I’ll be honest with you, I never saw the first Spirit of the Marathon, but I’ve heard great things and it’s on my wishlist!  I have heard that Spirit of the Marathon II was done a little differently than the first one though and have read on a couple blogs from people that got to see a sneak peek that it was truly inspirational!  I can’t wait to have a night out and watch it!!  If you’d like to watch the official trailer, I’ve embedded it below because that’s what friends do! ;) Enjoy!

Three Things Thursday

Right now I feel like my life is a little too boring to blog about lol… well… other than wedding stuff of course ;)   So.. following the crowd, three thing thursday it is ;)

1.  I’m ALL better!!  no more sick germs!! yay!!  Is anyone else a complete baby when they don’t feel well… or is that just me?!

2.  I decided I’m going to create a page solely devoted to all of my wedding posts… if you ever feel like you might have missed an all important announcement or wedding update, you can just click on the link to take you to the wedding page and it’ll all be together in one spot… yes, i am 100% doing this for all of you (not me) You’re welcome ;)

2.b.  Yeah… don’t look for the link tonight… I’m lazy/tired so it’ll happen sometime over the weekend ;)

3.  I know that many of you might have read something about a movie coming out called
My Run
… but many of you might not have heard about it yet…  so, here’s the scoop:

After tragically losing his wife to breast cancer and struggling to raise three young children on his own, real life super hero and modern day Forrest Gump, Terry Hitchcock seized on an idea. He wanted to accomplish the impossible: run 75 consecutive marathons in 75 consecutive days to bring attention to the incredibly difficult lives of single-parent families. He ran in spite of freezing rain and unbearable heat, in spite of chest pains and bone fractures that wracked his 57-year-old body. He just kept running - each day, every day - strengthening an unbreakable bond between father and son--- not stopping until he broke the finish line tape in Atlanta. MY RUN is more than a film about a guy running multiple marathons; it’s a film about the daily marathons we all run in life, a theme that’s extremely relevant and important in this day and time.

It’s a ONE NIGHT only premiere on March 31st, 2011!! Tickets went on sale February 18th!  If you want to buy tickets you can GO HERE.  If you want to read more about the movie or see the trailer you can go to the movie’s website!

It’s a Date!

This weekend, my boyfriend came over every day and just chilled with me around the house because 1) I didn’t feel good and 2) I was pouting.  So this went on Friday, Saturday, and then Sunday my boyfriend decided that after church we were going to go on a date!  Well this instantly cheered me up because I LOVE dates with my man!! :D

He took me out to eat and then we started a 30  minute drive to a Cinema that I had never been to before.  It was probably the nicest movie theater I have ever been to!

We went to Resident Evil Afterlife in 3D!!!  I’ve never been to a 3D movie before and neither had Joshuah so it was really neat. He looked over at me during the 3D previews and said “This is so cool!”  I’m pretty sure we both felt like little 5 year olds, but in a fun way… It was so cool!

The movie itself was ok, it seemed like a lot of traveling and you could tell it was definitely made for 3D.  There was one scene when everything froze in midair and the camera panned from one side to the other slowly… that was pretty cool… it probably would’ve been lame if it weren’t in 3D though.  Then it was one of those endings when you can definitely tell they’re making another one… I hate those endings because they always seem dumb to me… nothing is wrapped up in a pretty little bow.

All-in-all, it was a fun date and I’m really glad that we got to spend some time together AND the 3D glasses were pretty sweet!

****HEALTH UPDATE****

I am feeling a little better… I still have some chest pain and at times still have some shortness of breath.  I am STILL waiting on the hospital to call to schedule my exams.  If they don’t call today, I’m going to call them tomorrow to see if I can get in this week!

In the meantime, I’ve decided to continue on as though I am definitely running in my half marathon!  I ordered my GU today and I’m putting together a playlist… I’m trying to make myself not be too excited though, just in case I can’t run.  BUT, my parents and I are still going to the expo and having a mini vacation either way so I am excited about that… I’ll continue to keep you all updated on my health and thank you so much for your concern, thoughts, and prayers!  It really does mean a lot to me that you all care! :D
