Longest Run Post Injury!! (video)

I’m home sick today… read BORED… so I’ve been working on improving my blog while having a Bachelor marathon…

Screenshot 2014-02-12 12.11.38

I DVRd all of the episodes but haven’t been able to watch them until now… you may or may not be seeing a lot of blogging from me today ;) Be prepared to become best buds lol!

This is from Tuesday night!!  I’m so excited!!! After being injured, this is the highlight of my week! My longest run post injury!
(I have no idea what happened with the quality of this video… sorry for the weird pauses)

I ended up running 1.60 miles in 19:45min (11:52 pace)… I miss my faster pace, but if I want to heal up and get back to running as much as I was before, I gotta take it SLLLOOOOWWWWW…
I’m happy to report there is ZERO knee pain going on up in here after this run!! :)

Have you ever come back from an injury?
How did you cope?
Do you watch The Bachelor? What do you think of this season?

I Spy on my Nightstand…

They say you can tell a lot about someone by what they have on their nightstand… what do you think?  If that’s true, what can you deduce about me from this picture of my nightstand?

The Answers to Life

Ok… they really aren’t the answers to life… but if someone does have those answers, please forward them on to me!! ;)

image
Sign for “I love you”

I know you all want to know the answers to my little ASL experiment/project that I had to do for class… I had over 21 people email me their answers… it was fun seeing what everyone came up with!  AND I PROMISE, I did not laugh at you!  One of the reasons I did not laugh at you was because you all helped me out so much!! (So thank you!) The other reason I did not laugh is because ASL is not just miming, or gesturing, or trying to make a picture with your hands that looks exactly like what you are talking about.  ASL is an actual language, so I did not expect you all to know what I was signing.

Just like in English, not every symbol (word) is iconic of what it is referring to.  Let’s take the word “cat” for instance… that word is a symbol of the actual furry animal.  The word “cat” looks nothing like the actual thing.  If you said “cat” to someone who didn’t know what a cat was, they wouldn’t be able to guess what it was just based on the sound or look of that word.  That makes it arbitrary.  Words that are more iconic would be an onomatopoeia … words like “boom” or “buzz”… it actually sounds like the noise it’s describing.  confusing yet? ;)

Well it’s the same thing in American Sign Language.  Not every sign looks like what it is referring to.  A person who uses ASL would not be able to understand Chinese Sign Language or Italian Sign Language because of the arbitrariness of language.  Which disproves the myth that ASL is universal!  That’s what this project was all about.  Iconicity and arbitrariness… HERE is a link that describes it in case my description doesn’t make sense … which is very likely ;)

Now for the moment you have all been waiting for… the answers to my project! lol

Sign #1: Baby
Sign #2: Bird
Sign #3: Book
Sign #4: Banana
Sign #5: Cat
Sign #6: Baseball
Sign #7: Swimming
Sign #8: Tree
Sign #9: Stars
Sign #10: School

**The first 8 signs are relatively iconic.  Most people guessed those correctly.

**The last 2 signs are arbitrary (look nothing like what they represent). 2 people got those correct, but they both have a little ASL background! ;)  (Wells L and BDD ;)

So, once again, thank you so much to everyone who helped me finish my project!!  You guys are the best!!  Seriously! :)  In other news… 2 more sleeps before my first full marathon!! haha… yep, had to throw that in there somewhere lol ;)  I’m still popping Tylenol and Vitamin C and drinking plenty of water and Emergen-C to try to kick this cold… My nose/face is feeling a tad better but my cough has gotten way worse… hopefully it gets a little better before Sunday! :)

What did you think about the project if you took part in it?

Now that you know the answers to the signs, does it make sense why that sign represents that object?

Before reading this post, did you think that ASL was universal? (it’s ok to admit it… lots of people think it is!)

Do you have any prior knowledge of ASL? Do you know ASL?

Have you ever tried to communicate with a Deaf person? Stories please! :)

S-I-C-K

sick_in_bed

Yep, it happened… inevitably… I have something big going on this weekend and i get SICK!!

Sneezing and sniffling non-stop, coughing, headache…

I’ve been popping Tylenol and Vitamin C like they’re candy
and drinking Emergen-C like it’s water!

MY FIRST FULL MARATHON IS THIS SUNDAY!!!

How could this happen!?

ooo… I know!! Maybe it has something to do with ramping up my mileage by… A LOT… and not eating my fruits and veggies and going to bed around midnight thanks to the college life…

I haven’t run at all this week… which is ok i guess, since i am tapering and all…

I guess I’ll just have to add tissues to the list of things to take with me Sunday morning! lol…
I really can’t wait for the Columbus Marathon! My first full… it’s going to be amazing!! :)
I’m sure you’ll hear more about it in the next couple days as it’s THIS weekend!!
(my how time flies!)

Lazy Day

Well… Today was a lazy day as you can see… both the dog and I lounged around and napped all day long.

110220-143656

For some reason, I like to wear hoods if I’m in a sweatshirt, makes me more gangsta awesome than I already am I’m sure… I’m still feeling quite crappy, but I’m so excited because tomorrow my mom and I are going to the big city (anything is “the big city” if it’s 30 or more minutes away from where we live lol) to shop for veils and a dress for her to wear to my wedding… it should be loads of fun and I’m just positive that my germs will take a day off since it’s president’s day tomorrow!  To those of you that get the day off.. enjoy it! :)

Wedding Update: Invitations and Response Cards

Thanks everyone for the get well wishes!!  I’m still feeling a little under the weather and my throat is still sore, but I don’t have a fever or a gross cough or nausea or anything like that so its bearable :)  Even though I’m still not feeling up to par, I had to take advantage of the beautiful weather we were having yesterday! 65 degrees!!  This weekend is supposed to get cold again… yuck!  I’m so ready for spring/summer weather!

So, when I got off work. I changed clothes (I ran in a short sleeve shirt and capris!) and grabbed my Garmin and Road ID and off I went! It felt so good!  Can I just say I’ve missed running outside?!  I ran 4.03 miles with an average pace of 10:18 says my Garmin… I haven’t come up with a name for it yet… any thoughts?!

Today it was another beautiful day but I am just feeling awful still so I figured I would just stretch a little instead of run again and hopefully go to bed early!  I’m hoping to meet a dear friend of mine for a run in the morning! :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I GOT THEM!!! I GOT MY WEDDING INVITATIONS!!!  Oh I love them!!  It’s so exciting to see our names on them… it makes it 50 times more real than it already seemed… I’M GETTING MARRIED!!! tehe! ;)
I ordered our invitations from The American Wedding… they sent me a sample of a plain invitation and then I paid $20 bucks for an online proof of what they would look like before they printed them… I was just nervous I had made a mistake and didn’t want 100 invites going out with the wrong name or date/time on them!  lol… I got the proof in my email about 3 days after I ordered the invitations and then after I okayed the proof it took them less than a week to print them and get them to my front door!  Also that $20 I paid for a proof… they sent me an extra hard copy too! How considerate ;) lol… here they are!!
DSC01214
They will have a sheer white ribbon tied around the invitation in a bow between our initials and our names! :)  Then, I found a great deal on Vista Print for 100 free postcards… um, can we say yes please?!  Postcards are perfect… remember how I mentioned in this post that I’m a tightwad? lol… well, postcards save you money!  (just a tip for future brides out there)  1) You don’t have to buy envelopes so that people can mail it back, they just pop the postcard in the mail as is… and 2) Postcard stamps are quite a bit cheaper than regular stamps! :)  yay!!
So… I used one of the designs they already had on Vista Print (you can use your own design too if you’d like)  and I put in my own wording… moved the wording around to where I wanted it all to be and voila!  I only had to pay for shipping and handling, which was about 6 or 7 bucks!  Compared to what the industry wants you to pay for response cards… i saved anywhere from 30-100 bucks! GO VISTA PRINT!  How cute are they?  (i would show you a real picture but i can’t get the right lighting)
rsvp postcard showoff
So my colors are blue and green and my invitations are blue and my response postcards are green… who said everything from save the dates to invitations to response cards had to match?! lol… phooey!  I didn’t even send out save the dates… I figured our engagement was a short one and I made sure to tell all the important people to put the date on their calendars, so it’s all good in my book!  A lot of this “wedding etiquette” that I’ve been reading about is just silly… it’s YOUR wedding so do what YOU want!  (another tip for future brides) ;)  I’m full of good tips today lol ;)
What are some things you wish someone would have told you while
you were planning your wedding?
Postponement on my Training
Well… back in November I registered for the Capital City Half Marathon and I have kept pushing off training for some reason… maybe because it’s been cold, I’ve been planning a wedding, or I just am plain lazy… who knows!
But, I was seriously going to start out training today with a 4 mile tempo run but that isn’t going to happen because I’m sick … It feels much like strep throat which would make sense because the young people I work with come to work and inform me that they have strep throat but not to worry because they aren’t contagious anymore but then cough in my face… I’m hoping to feel better so I can start training tomorrow… it’s supposed to be nearly 60 degrees!! YAY!!  Just a week ago the high was 7 lol…silly Ohio weather!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Last night was mine and Josh’s Valentine’s Day since we didn’t get to see each other on Monday.  He came over and brought me beautiful pink roses, reeses cups, and a card.  I gave him a card and a project of mine in pieces lol… I didn’t get to finish it since I was also sick yesterday and slept most of the day. (more on the project later) Then we made dinner together of sausage and cheese bagels and scrambled eggs… yummy!  We finished out our date with watching one of my favorite shows, NCIS, and then he had to go home early because he had an important test this morning!  It was a wonderful date!  I love him so much and cannot wait to marry him! :)

DSC01202 My beautiful flowers

DSC01206 His unfinished project that I promised would be finished by the weekend lol

Now I’m going to take a nap even though it’s only 11:45 AM lol hopefully I can
kick this before I have to go to work tonight!  I hope everyone has a great day
today!!  You’re week is half way done!! :)

Make Believe… I’m a Pro!

This past weekend was a bust!  I was sick all weekend starting Thursday, and Friday was supposed to be a great day off… I spent it mostly in bed! I’m still feeling some of the effects but I’ve mostly recovered.  So, due to a couple set backs and thinking things through, I’ve decided not to run the Ashland Half Marathon and I’m ok with that because I have a plan forming in my brain! MUAH HAHAHA!! lol… I’m pretty excited for 2011! :D

Today started out great though because the very first thing, I got a call telling me that I wasn’t needed at work… Ok, so I guess that can be both good and bad, but the weather was gorgeous!! Sunny and about 65 degrees!  I definitely had to get outside and go running!!  Due to being sick, I hadn’t gone running since last Tuesday!

My brother decided that he would ride his bike along with me while I ran and he took some pictures of me before we headed out.  Photo Op!! haha… I felt like a pro! ;)  Take a look at some of my favorite pictures (and then go visit my brother’s photography page on facebook HERE):

You can click the pictures to make them larger

Why yes, I did custom make some arm sleeves out of a pair of socks… thanks for noticing!  haha, it was kind of chilly when we set off but i didn’t feel like wearing a long sleeve shirt… they worked pretty well and I ended up taking them off about a mile into my run.  My brother put them in one of his kit pockets for me.

We ended up going 4.28 miles, well I ran that and my brother probably rode about double that because he would coast down hills and then come back to where I was and so on and so forth.  When we got back I made myself stretch because being sick made my muscles tight and then I made one of my favoritest (yes, that word is in my vocabulary) protein shakes and hopped in the shower.

Since then, I’ve been blogging (and working on the layout of mine), relaxing, crocheting, and spending time with my family…  Today is what my Friday was supposed to be like!  God knew that I needed today so badly!  It was a fabulous break from the busyness and stress of my normal weeks!

Do you ever make believe to be something you’re not, just for fun? (seriously… adults can have fun too!)

10-10 Virtual Race Report

1010VR6Click on the picture to go to the race website (or Neil’s blog)

Ok, Sorry Neil for being late on my race report!  BUT here it is in all its glory boringness! I know I already wished you a Happy Birthday, but I wanted to say it again cuz it looks like you had a wonderful birthday celebration with family!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEIL!!!

On to the race report!  On Saturday 10-9-10 I went on a run after work and the day was beautiful!!  I originally signed up to do a 10k but I’ve been sick so I decided to run the 1/2 10k race!  Here’s me before the start:

b769e3fa6626__1286611250000

I ran my 1/2 10k (or 5k if you wish) and although I felt terrible… I enjoyed the run!  I don’t know how fast I went, I can tell you it wasn’t very… maybe just under a 10min/mile pace?  I just enjoyed the view on the bike path and when I got home, I found out that I had only done 2.8 miles… whoops!  But it’s the effort right?!  So, here’s my finishing photo (official of course):

And, because you can see that I used my Fuel Belt Handheld in the picture, I have to promote my giveaway!  If you want one for yourself and a couple GUs as well CLICK HERE to enter my giveaway that ends on 10/20!

Health Update: Exams Scheduled

I was on my way home from job #1 today when the hospital called to schedule my tests.  After being on the phone for about 30 minutes (on hold for about half of that time because I told them I wanted the SOONEST time possible and I would change my schedule to whatever they had available) we finally got a date set!!

TOMORROW MORNING!!!

That’s right, Thursday September 16, I finally get in!  I am, as of 10pm tonight, no longer allowed to drink or eat anything and have to be at the hospital at 9:30 tomorrow morning.  The lady told me to come prepared to be there all day long and that I would probably not get out of there til after 3pm.  So, I’ll probably take a book and some knitting/crocheting to do.  I really dont know what all I’ll have to do or will be done to my body, but I’m ready for it!

I am feeling much better than I was this time last week though!  So… HONEST MOMENT TIME… I have been thinking “What if there is nothing wrong with me?”  I’ll look like such an idiot!  BUT, the chest pain is real!  The shortness of breath is getting better but is real!  So, if nothing is wrong, I look like an idiot/liar/crazy person/loser…  I really do want it to be nothing though!  I’d rather it be nothing than something!  I’m actually kind of nervous lol…

I guess in the long run (tehe) I’d rather get it checked out and it be nothing than not get it checked out and it be something… make sense?

My follow up appointment with the cardiologist is September 23rd… the day before I leave for Tennessee!  I hope I can run in my half!  Please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers!  I really have appreciated all of you!  You have made this time in my life TONS easier to go through!

It’s a Date!

This weekend, my boyfriend came over every day and just chilled with me around the house because 1) I didn’t feel good and 2) I was pouting.  So this went on Friday, Saturday, and then Sunday my boyfriend decided that after church we were going to go on a date!  Well this instantly cheered me up because I LOVE dates with my man!! :D

He took me out to eat and then we started a 30  minute drive to a Cinema that I had never been to before.  It was probably the nicest movie theater I have ever been to!

DSC00221

We went to Resident Evil Afterlife in 3D!!!  I’ve never been to a 3D movie before and neither had Joshuah so it was really neat. He looked over at me during the 3D previews and said “This is so cool!”  I’m pretty sure we both felt like little 5 year olds, but in a fun way… It was so cool!

The movie itself was ok, it seemed like a lot of traveling and you could tell it was definitely made for 3D.  There was one scene when everything froze in midair and the camera panned from one side to the other slowly… that was pretty cool… it probably would’ve been lame if it weren’t in 3D though.  Then it was one of those endings when you can definitely tell they’re making another one… I hate those endings because they always seem dumb to me… nothing is wrapped up in a pretty little bow.

All-in-all, it was a fun date and I’m really glad that we got to spend some time together AND the 3D glasses were pretty sweet!

DSC00222

****HEALTH UPDATE****

I am feeling a little better… I still have some chest pain and at times still have some shortness of breath.  I am STILL waiting on the hospital to call to schedule my exams.  If they don’t call today, I’m going to call them tomorrow to see if I can get in this week!

In the meantime, I’ve decided to continue on as though I am definitely running in my half marathon!  I ordered my GU today and I’m putting together a playlist… I’m trying to make myself not be too excited though, just in case I can’t run.  BUT, my parents and I are still going to the expo and having a mini vacation either way so I am excited about that… I’ll continue to keep you all updated on my health and thank you so much for your concern, thoughts, and prayers!  It really does mean a lot to me that you all care! :D

An Evening Spent in the ER

Well, I have been MIA this week because I have not been feeling well at all!  Monday evening after I got off work, I decided to head to the track to get in my speed workout.  I was supposed to do 1mi warmup, 4x1600 @8:35 pace with 800 recoveries between, and 1 mile cooldown = 8mi… well, I did the warmup and I got the first 1600 with 800 recovery done.  After that, I just couldn’t do it… Maybe it had to do with being on my feet at work all day or that it was kind of hot but I finished with an 800, 400, 200, 100 working on speed… I really dont know how speedy I was, but probably not very lol.  I started not feeling good but said “Zaneta, you can do a 1 mile cooldown… seriously!”  so I slowy did my last mile and cut my workout short by only doing about 4.5 miles.  I went home feeling yucky… headache, slight cough, feeling nauseous, and kind of like I couldn’t catch my breath. Soo…

Tuesday, I decided to take a rest day and I stayed in bed until I got a text from my boyfriend that said “someone’s here to see you!” He had had class that morning and had the rest of the day off so he came over to chill with me all day… we played games like mancala and guess who and read the latest runners world, then we made french toast for dinner…  I was still feeling a little weak and tired and still like I was short of breath, but felt like it was getting better.  I really enjoyed the day despite being sick.  Then…

Wednesday, I woke up feeling OK, so I got out of bed and met my running partner at my door at 8:30… our plan was to run 9.5 – 10 miles but we only got in 8.25.  We had to stop a couple times due to me feeling a little nauseous and I couldn’t catch my breath… we walked a couple times and cut it short because I just couldn’t do it!  I went to work for 2 hours at my sitting down job then came home and rested the rest of the evening.

Thursday (yesterday), I went to my “Stand on your feet all day” job and actually ended up leaving early because I just couldn’t catch my breath and my chest was hurting on the left side a little bit so I came home and my dad took me to the ER.  My boyfriend met us there and they got me into a room right away which is weird for the ER…  They had me standing and sitting for some of the time and my hands and feet were tingly and my lips started tingling… so as soon as they let me lie down, I started feeling a little better but still was short of breath.  They did blood work, gave me some anxiety medicine thru an IV, did an EKG, and took some chest xrays all of which came back ok.  Also, I had no clue I was anxious about anything?! lol… anyways… They ended up telling me no training until I could follow up with a specialist… which Im doing today!  I was really surprised he could get me in today at such a short notice!  I’ll let you guys know how it goes!  Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers!

Twin Update

Thank you so much everyone for praying for my twin!! She just got back after being at the ER for 5-6 hours and the tests and spinal tap came back NEGATIVE!! The doctors said it was good to get checked out anyways since her coworker was diagnosed with it! Thanks for praying, it meant a lot!!

Please Pray!

My twin is at the hospital right now... she complained last night and all day today about neck pain, fever, headache among a few others... we found out that a girl she works with is being quarantined at the hospital since yesterday and just last week a 19 year old girl died of meningitis... so please keep my twin in your thoughts and prayers that she doesn't have meningitis!! Thank you so much!!
