Happy National Running Day!

National Running Day - June 5, 2013

I run for too many reasons and they wouldn’t all fit apparently! ;)

Today to celebrate the occasion I actually got outside and got a run in!  I taped up my knee in KT Tape and headed out the door.

I got in 3.23 miles @13:35/mile (43:50)… talk about feeling slow! :(  I just have to keep reminding myself that it will get better and I will be able to run as fast as I used to again…I ended up walking about half of it because I didn’t want to push my luck and end up aggravating my knee more than it is already… I actually think it’s getting better (slightly) but that’s a post for another day… Here are some views from my run today.

Remember the Anywhere5k Virtual Run for OKC that I posted about a couple weeks ago?
This was my #run4ock!

It was also for Run With Jess’s 5000 likes on FB giveaway! Go check it out and like her on FB!

What did you do to celebrate National Running Day?
- Got my butt out the door for a run! :)

Do you ever participate in virtual runs?
- More now than “real” ones because I can go at a slow pace due
to my knee and not feel bad about it…

Run for Rhodes #Anywhere 5k

I know I keep saying I’m not running any races this year due to my knee issue, BUT… Virtual races don’t count!! Why not? you make ask…  Well, because you can run a virtual race as slow as you’d like and still participate and feel good about it!!  At least that’s how I feel about them! :)  Today I was able to participate in the Run for Rhodes #Anywhere 5k

It runs April 20th – April 21st  (There’s still time to get in on the action)
Just go to the Website and register and download a bib and run 5k then go back and submit your time and share a picture on facebook or twitter to be eligible for prizes! Simple as that!

Run for Rhodes #Anywhere 5k is in honor of Dustin Rhodes, a 28 year old runner who is 1 of only 200 people in their 20s in the whole world diagnosed with a severe brain tumor called glioblastoma multiforme. To read more you can click Here.  This race is to raise awareness and donations or cards for Dustin.  Like I said… there’s still time left to participate so head on over and sign up!! :)

Anyways… so I ran my race on the treadmill and did a slow 3.1 miles trying to focus on form and keep my hips from collapsing and ended up running my 5k in 33:22.  I’ll take it!! Afterwards I stretched for about a half hour (yeah almost as long as it took me to run the 5k lol) and *knock on wood* my knee feels like it is slowly but surely getting better… hopefully!  We shall see! Sorry for the boring race recap, but it is what it is ;)

Oh yeah, BTW, you can now Follow my blog with Bloglovin (check out the new social media/follow buttons on my sidebar!)  :)

Did you race today? What about tomorrow?
Have you ever run a virtual race? Did you enjoy it?

I Can’t Afford the Actual Race Virtual Marathon Recap

Ok… a week late but still wanted to post the recap!!  If you hadn’t heard, Barefoot Neil Z held a virtual marathon named “I can’t afford the actual race” … being that I’m on a tight budget because of school and the wedding at the moment, I thought this was a perfect race for my 2011 racing season!!  So thanks Neil!! :)

If you signed up for the race before Neil realized he was too busy, he sent you a personalized race bib (included in the price of registering for the race, of course)… well I signed up at the right time because he was actually able to surprise me and make me the most incredible race bib ever!!  It is my absolute favorite race bib of all time!!! I may have to frame it! ;)

Yep… $6.25 … June 25th is when I’m getting married
Z … my nickname
zuh-NEHT-uh … how you correctly pronounce my name

LOVE IT!!! :D

This marathon was held on May 1st, but technically you had from April 17 – May 1st to get in all the miles as long as you ran the last 1k ( .62 miles) on May 1st… here’s a look at how I got my 26.2 miles in! (you can click on a couple of the dates to get a recap of that run)

                                                April 17 – 3.07 miles in 27:58
                                                April 18 – 5.06 miles in 52:01
                                                April 25 – 8.08 miles in  1:29:39
                                                April 26 – 2.02 miles in 20:30
                                                April 28 – 4.17 miles in 36:00
                                                April 30 – 3.1 miles in 24:55
                                                May 1 – .7 miles in 8.18

  Total:   26.2 miles in 4:19:35

(if I did the math correctly) lol ;)

May 1st, I got the last .7 miles I needed in (more than 1k, so I didn’t disqualify) whew ;)  I didn’t get around to actually running until I got some shenanigans in… I was tired lol
(that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!)

Well that tired me out and I wanted to take a nap…
That’s what Sundays are for anyways right?!

DSC01918

ok ok, no nap… Time to get up and finish this thing!

I ended up slowing down big time halfway thru because I accidentally dropped the TV remote between the wall and the treadmill and tried to keep going so i didn’t have to stop completely while I fished it out lol… yep… who’s clumsy???  *ME* lol… strong finish Zaneta!! lol ;)

So thanks Neil for putting on this event!! It was fun and really helped me stay motivated to get in some training for my half marathon!!  (recap to come this week)
AND… did I mention I love the bib?! ;)

10-10 Virtual Race Report

1010VR6Click on the picture to go to the race website (or Neil’s blog)

Ok, Sorry Neil for being late on my race report!  BUT here it is in all its glory boringness! I know I already wished you a Happy Birthday, but I wanted to say it again cuz it looks like you had a wonderful birthday celebration with family!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEIL!!!

On to the race report!  On Saturday 10-9-10 I went on a run after work and the day was beautiful!!  I originally signed up to do a 10k but I’ve been sick so I decided to run the 1/2 10k race!  Here’s me before the start:

I ran my 1/2 10k (or 5k if you wish) and although I felt terrible… I enjoyed the run!  I don’t know how fast I went, I can tell you it wasn’t very… maybe just under a 10min/mile pace?  I just enjoyed the view on the bike path and when I got home, I found out that I had only done 2.8 miles… whoops!  But it’s the effort right?!  So, here’s my finishing photo (official of course):

And, because you can see that I used my Fuel Belt Handheld in the picture, I have to promote my giveaway!  If you want one for yourself and a couple GUs as well CLICK HERE to enter my giveaway that ends on 10/20!
