Graduation – May 10, 2013

It’s been a week since I graduated from the Interpreting Education Program!  The 2 years and 2 quarters that I was in the program just flew by!  2 years of great teachers, hard work, tears, laughter, a lot of stress and a lot of lessons learned... I am finally an interpreter graduate!! I am so excited for this next chapter in my life and cannot thank my teachers or my peers enough for encouraging me and believing in me!!

Goals Update: April 2013

Remember my very first post of the year?  WAYYY back in January?!  Of course you don’t … ok, for those of you who can’t even remember what you ate last night for dinner (including me)  Let’s recap.   I talked about how 2012 wasn’t the best of years especially running/staying in shape-wise and set 3 attainable goals for 2013.

Goal #1:  Run at least 1 mile every month!
Goal #2:  Graduate in May and land at least a part time interpreting job by mid-June!
Goal #3:  Finish all the WIPs (works in progress) I have on my knitting needles/crochet hooks and make something for myself this year! :)  (currently sitting at 5 WIPs)

In my March Recap, I changed my first goal to :  Run at least 1 mile every week.

Well… I’m changing it again to “At the end of each month, average 1 mile per week AND get rid of knee pain”  This means that I don’t necessarily have to run 1 mile every week, as long as I average the 1 mile per week (or 4/5 miles a month) … certainly attainable right?  My first priority is my knee though and not mileage…

GOAL #1:  Run at least 1 mile every month week!  At the end of each month, average 1 mile per week AND get rid of knee pain

~By the end of April I had run at least 2 miles every week (Except the first week
in January when I was sick) with a total of 69.57 miles for the year.  Which means
on average I ran 4.09 miles per week.   - GOOD SO FAR

GOAL #2:  Graduate in May and land at least a part time interpreting job by mid-June!

~So far so good… I’m taking the last 2 classes I need and am at my last
internship required.  Currently I have A’s in both classes (trying to keep it that
way).  As far as the job part I am attending a job fair before graduation and have
started networking through my internship.  - IN PROGRESS

GOAL #3:  Finish all the WIPs (Works in Progress) I have on my knitting needles/crochet hooks (5 WIPS) and make something for myself this year! :)  - 4/6 COMPLETE

~Make something for myself this year “Honey Cowl” – COMPLETE 2/11/13

Three Things Thursday: RRR, Unexpected Job Offer, and Graduation … Oh My!!

1.  You still have time to linkup your race recaps from this week on the Race Recap Roundup.  Reminder:  the linkup will be reset every Monday! :)

Race Recap Roundup on Runners Luck

2.  Yesterday I got a long-term sub offer for all of May and it was exactly what I needed but wasn’t expecting at all!  It may even turn into a job for all of next school year too, but right now I am taking one day at a time!  With graduation coming up in 8 days, this is one less thing to stress about!! God is so good and knows exactly what we need and when we need it!  I am so blessed! :)

3.  Speaking of graduation…  Right now, I am at my last day of my internship and my last day of actual class!  (I wrote this last night before bed!)  ;)  I have one final project next week, but I’m not counting that!  I honestly just can’t believe I am graduating from the American Sign Language Interpreting program already!! Remember when I was all excited because I was starting the program? ;)  *squee!!*  Lots of exciting things going on!!

3b.  I will confess that with all the excitement/stress of graduation being soon, I have not
been keeping up on my working out or my leg & hip exercises the past week… whoops!

I hope you all have a great day and find something to be thankful for! :)

Goal #3:  Finish all the WIPs (works in progress) I have on my knitting needles/crochet hooks and make something for myself this year! :)  (currently sitting at 5 WIPs)

Let’s keep the standard high right? haha… well I’ve decided that related to my running goal (#1)  I’m going to change it to :  Run at least 1 mile every week.   Still attainable (I’ve done good so far)  and a little bit of a higher standard to hold me accountable! ;)

GOAL #1:  Run at least 1 mile every month week!

~By the end of March I had run at least 2 miles every week (Except the first week
in January when I was sick) with a total of 43.64 miles for the year.  Which means
on average I ran 3.35 miles per week.   - GOOD SO FAR

A Peek into my Life as an ASL Interpreting Student (Video)

If you are a new follower here at Runner’s Luck, you may not know that I am going to school to obtain a 2nd degree, this time in American Sign Language interpreting.  If you will direct your attention to the top right hand of my sidebar you will notice I have a little countdown going for graduation… I can’t believe it’s coming up so soon!!  Anywho… I spend all of my time right now (and most of the past 2 years) going to class, doing homework, completing projects, studying, and going to practicum/internship (not to mention life outside of that which includes work, family, running, and crafting).

That is why I thought it would be nice if you all could get a glimpse into this crazy life of mine and see what exactly an interpreting student does, because it really is consuming my life right now.  I did this artistic interpreting project for class last week and just found out I got an A on it so I decided to share it with you all!  Keep in mind it’s not perfect… It’s “Payphone” by Maroon 5!  Enjoy! :)

Tuesday Tidbits - April 2, 2013

This is going to be a bullet point list because I feel like I’m not writing as much that way and my grammar can be awful, but it doesn’t matter with a list! ;)

- If you’ll notice up in the right hand side of my blog, I’ve added a countdown to… [duh, duh, duhhh] … GRADUATION!!!  As of now, I have 37 days 21 hours 48 minutes and 15 seconds (that will definitely be less time by the time you all are reading this post!)

- That works out to about 10 more days of class, 8 more days of my internship (same days as classes), 20-30 hours of driving, 2 more big projects, 5 articles to read, 3 more quizzes, 8 more homework assignments, and lots of procrastination before I become a professional adult ;)

- I also added a “Giveaways” Button to my sidebar instead of listing out the giveaways right there on my sidebar because blogger’s link list app-y thing-y majig is not working… no big surprise that blogger isn’t working… right?! ;)  I should so switch to wordpress… I just don’t have the time or knowledge to do so right now…

- This week is spring break (as I mentioned in my weekly roundup) for the school I’ve been doing my interpreting practicum at.. which means I have class on tuesday and thursday from 4:30 – 7:20pm and maybe sub/work 2 days at the end of the week (county schools are on spring break til Wednesday) and that’s it…woohoo!!

- That means that I’ll be working out, doing some reading, knitting/crocheting, maybe cooking/baking?!  AND… a little more blogging this week too!!  Just don’t get used to it ;) tehe

- My computer is still sick (wireless network card went caput) … the only time I can get on the internet is if I go out to the family room (opposite side of the house from my room) and plug it up with the blue cable… it’s so inconvenient and now I can’t multi-task by watching my shows and deleting them off of DVR at the same time I blog/do homework… so inconvenient! :-P

- This morning I woke up to temperatures in the teens with the windchill… that doesn’t seem right… where is spring?!  I remember it being in the low 80’s last year on spring break… crazy weather! Bring on the sunshine and warm weather!!!

- Ok, I think that’s it for me… no pictures in this post… sorry!  I’ll try to take more pictures! :)  BTW, did anyone get pranked yesterday for April Fool’s?  What happened?  Did you fall for the Bacon-flavored mouth wash?  totally disgusting! ;)

Blog Brain

You know… blogging is like running.  You’ve got to slowly build your way back up!

I’ve noticed that when I was really training for a race, say my first ever half marathon, I was really into blogging and would always have something to blog about.  Now I feel like I have a boring life and can’t think like a blogger… not to mention I really have no time to blog.  In fact, right now I am procrastinating some homework to write this… can we say senioritis?! sheesh!

Sidenote: the word “senioritis” is apparently in Windows Live Writer’s dictionary… who would have thunk!

I have a total of 47 days (if I’m counting correctly) or 6.65 weeks until I graduate with my ASL interpreting degree!  I remember when I was blogging about going back to school!! crazy times!  I’m freaking out a little bit about what to do about getting jobs, where exactly I would like to work, what field I would like to work in… that sort of thing.  I’m also freaking myself out a little bit about “if I’m ready to be a real-life interpreter” These 2 years and 2 quarters have absolutely flown by!!

In running news, I have successfully run at least 2 miles every week since the 2nd week of January (I was sick the first week).  Slowly but surely I am starting to get my fitness back… very slowly!!  Not to mention I have that same nagging knee pain I had last year right before the Cap City Half… I honestly do not know why it’s there or how to get rid of it… I’ve been trying some hip exercises to see if that would help, but not so much.  It’s quite annoying!

Anyways… I just wanted to catch you all up on my life and let you know that I probably will not be writing a whole lot (as you could tell already) as my graduation date (and therefore the busiest time of the school year for me) draws closer and closer! :)

I hope you all are doing well!  I miss reading your blogs!! Hopefully I can still visit from time to time :)  Have a great weekend everyone!

Really?! On the first day?!

funny-traffic-sign

This traffic sign should have been posted yesterday!  Yesterday was the first day of Spring Semester which means new classes and a new internship…  while I was getting ready for my first day of my new internship, I saw that the route I take to get there is closed due to a 4-car wreck.  My poor hubby on his day off was woken up early to see if he knew an alternate route I could take… even though he was more asleep than awake, he was very helpful!  I only ended up being about 5 minutes late … ON MY FIRST DAY!  Thankfully the people I’m working with are super sweet and understanding and when I text my supervising interpreter the situation she replied with a kind “don’t rush! Take your time and be safe! :)”

Other than the traffic to start off the day, the rest of the day went well!  I think I’m really going to enjoy this interpreting internship!  Class also went well… but I think I’ve been hit with the “almost-done bug”! haha!  I just want to be done!  2 classes and my internship for 4 months is all that stands between me and my 2nd college degree!  I’m super excited and can’t wait to finally have the job of my dreams and get on with the rest of my life!!

In running news, I got to run for the first time this year this past Saturday!  The weather was a beautiful 57* when I started and 64* when I ended!  It was the first time I’ve run outside in a while and it felt so good to get outside and sweat it out! :)  I only went about 2.6 miles… but baby steps people! ;)  Getting BACK into shape after being there for a while kinda sucks like a vacuum cleaner… I know some of you said you were in the same boat either because you got injured or because life got in the way  (like me) so how are all of you progressing in the “back into shape” venture?

I hope you all are having a great week so far!! I’m hoping to have the Valentine’s Card Swap up and running by the weekend!!  So stay tuned! ;)

It’s Finally FRIDAY!

Found this on google search… Yep, I google everything!

It’s finally Friday!  This week was the last week of regular classes and my last day of my internship for the semester was yesterday.  I signed up for an 11 hour day because I LOVED my internship and never wanted it to end!  I may or may not have cried a little on my way home around 9 o’clock last night!  BUT this means that I only have 2 Finals standing between me and Christmas break where all I’ll be doing is subbing as many days as possible before the kids go on Christmas Break AND… Starting the process of getting BACK into shape!

You guessed it… googled ;)

I LOVE Christmas! It’s my favorite time of year!! :)  That’s why I hold the Christmas Card Swap every year!!  Don’t forget to sign up!!! You’ve got about 12 hours or so left. (when I wake up tomorrow)  CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP AND JOIN THE FUN!! :)  I’ve got a few emails to catch up on so if you’re name isn’t on the list yet, don’t fret! :)  I’ll be working on that right after I post this!!

2012 Christmas Card Swap Logo

What are you looking forward to?
  - Christmas break for sure! :)

Have you ever had to get “back” into shape?
  - Yep… there now, it is NOT fun!  Other things are just prioritized right now and I’ve come to terms with that.

Are you racing this weekend?  Running and Christmas themed races?

Three Things Thursday

1. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers for my unexpected dental procedure! It went well!  In order to tell you all about it, you need a little bit of back story first!  When I was in 5th grade, I was at basketball practice.  We were running some suicide sprints and this boy got mad because I was beating him so he pushed me into the brick wall at full force.  Every tooth in my mouth was knocked loose and moved, my chin was split open, and my 4 front ADULT teeth were knocked out.  My doctor was thankfully there as his son was on the same team as me and he said that if I would’ve been about an inch more to the right I probably would’ve broken my neck on the stairs of the bleachers.  I had to miss 2+ months of school and had to go through stitches and TONS of dental work that was painful, but my dentist was able to build up my teeth so they looked real.
Back to Tuesday, one of my teeth felt weird so I went up to the mirror and ran my tongue over my teeth and as soon as I did that, one of my fake teeth popped off.  Well, as you can imagine, I was terrified and all those horrible memories of 5th grade came rushing back and I instantly burst into tears.  Afterall, I wasn’t about to go anywhere looking like that, especially to my internship!  So I immediately called the dentist and he wasn’t available, but 10 minutes later, I got a call and he was going to come into the office just to see me!  We got my tooth built back up and all is now well again in the life of me! ;)

2. Running Update:  Well, after planning to run the Columbus Marathon, and then needing to downgrade to the half, and then not training whatsoever, I decided to not even go.  I ended up sleeping in which was amazing and saving my gas money and saving my body from being sore.  Was I disappointed… sure.  That was my first DNS.  But, right now, life is crazy hectic and I think it was the right decision.  As for running in general:  I’ve been running a mile here or there and doing a little bit of weights… some weeks I go without any exercise… I just think that sleep is more important to me right now.  I’m ok with that… as soon as this STRESSFUL semester is over (December 15th) I plan on getting back into running/exercising and slowly building my health/fitness back up to where I was before… it’s a little depressing knowing that a year ago I ran a marathon and now I can only really run about 2 miles lol… ugh!

3. Erica from Life as a Running Mom sent me a email yesterday:

Aloha Zaneta!

Ironically, I came across your business card tucked in your Christmas card last year on my work desk today and was wondering....are you doing this again this year?

Have a great day!
Erica
The answer is YES!!! The past couple of years have been a blast and I am so excited to host it again this year!! If you’ve never taken part in the Christmas Card Swap, you can check out last year’s HERE! I will have signups posted probably this weekend or the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so keep your eyes open!! :)

I hope you all are doing well! I really miss visiting everyone’s blogs! Also, welcome to the couple of new friends we have here one Runner’s Luck!! :)

Friday, October 12, 2012

It’s Friday 5!!! Addition to the family and Life in General!

1.  So, life has been hectic…  I feel like I’ve never known a time in my life when it hasn’t been that way lol…  The things taking up most of my time consist of school, homework, my interpreting practicum (internship), driving an hour or more both ways (to and from) everyday, an interpreting mentoring program, and…did I say homework? ;)

VID00335 VID00329 VID00330 VID00331 VID00332 VID00333

2.  So, as you can see from the above, I haven’t had time for much of anything else.  That means that blogging (*gasp*)  and running (*even bigger gasp*) have taken a back seat in this season of my life.  I’d be ok with that, for the most part, IF… I didn’t have a 1/2 marathon sneaking up on me in 8 days! ha!  What happened is:  I signed up for the Columbus FULL marathon as soon as registration opened because I LOVED my first full last year and it’s cheaper the sooner you register… is sooner a word? lol!  Anyways…  Then I had to downgrade to the half because of everything in #1.  NOW, the race is 8 days away… the farthest I’ve run is 5 miles and that was ooo… about a month or more ago lol.  SO not prepared!  I feel rather pathetic about it, but what can you do?

If this was your situation what would you do?
     - Go and try to have fun even though you’d be walking about 3/4 of the race?
     - Go and try to run the whole thing even though you haven’t trained because your
       stubborn like that?
     - Go and try not to see anyone you know.. how embarrassing that you’re walking!
     - Don’t go and sleep in instead?
     - Other:___________________

3. So… since blogging has been something I haven’t been doing… tell me what’s been going on with you!  I know some of you have gotten engaged and run races and have had many firsts of things… TELL ME! TELL ME! TELL ME!! :)

4. My car has been acting up on me.  One day, I was stopped on an on-ramp (incline) and my car battery died so I was stuck and everyone behind me was stuck unless they could go around… a police officer had to come and push me bumper-to-bumper up the ramp and into a gas station that was in a not so good area.  After the tow truck came, the officer gave me a ride, in the back of his car, to school.  I’m sure you all can imagine the looks I got when he had to get out of the car and come let me out of the caged part of the vehicle in front of everyone! It was quite comical!  What’s not so funny, is that my car also died WHILE I was driving on the Interstate.  My engine just gave out.  I had to ride in the tow truck about an hour to get back home and missed out on my internship that day… Here’s a picture from the passenger seat of a tow truck of my poor car:

910df95d85c4__1349445280000

5.  That’s where the new addition to our family comes in…  My car was going to be double what I paid for the thing in the first place, just to replace the engine… so my husband took me car shopping and we were just planning on looking around, but came home with this new little beauty!  (2013 Chevy Spark):
