Bachelorette Dinner #2

First can I just say… I’m sorry for not being able to get around to all of your blogs lately!!  I’ve been SO busy!!!  I only have 8 days til the wedding (June 25) and I have so much stuff to do still!!  I hope you all understand and will forgive me! ;)

Secondly, can I just say… LOOK AT THIS 10 DAY FORECAST! lol… incredible! Hopefully it stays that way!  BUT it is Ohio so, it could change in an instant… I’m keeping my fingers crossed! lol

Thirdly … June 3rd, my friends from college (we all played basketball together) took me out to The Cheesecake Factory because I had never been there before.  They got me a sash and made me wear it and our waitress was not the best lol… we tried to pay the bill for 45 minutes lol…  she kept getting the bills wrong and charging the wrong cards and it was a mess… but the food was good, the cheesecake was delicious, we had a lot of laughs and a good time was had by all! ;)  Here are a couple of the pics:

The Capital City Half Marathon Race Recap

41594_76129624708_7668_n

The Capital City Half Marathon
Saturday, May 7, 2011
Start Time: 8:00am

Warning:  This post is LONG

Ok, I won’t bore you with talking about the expo… I’ll just say, I did end up going by myself which is fine because I got in and out without any problems… and J ended up calling me as I was leaving to see if I wanted to meet up in the morning… AND… before the expo I ate this awesome cookie which was sure to make me fast the next morning! ;)  (yes, it says “Fast Eddie”)

DSC01936

RACE MORNING, I had set my alarm to go off at 5:30am, but ended up waking up around 4:45am to the power being out! I was seriously a little skeptical on how I was going to get ready for my race in complete darkness… but it came back on around 5am so all was well!!  I ate a piece of peanut butter toast and water for breakfast and hopped in the shower to warm up a little because it was cold!!

DSC01957Getting Ready

Sidenote:  Yes, I, Zaneta (AKA: the not so girly girl) bought a running skirt!! surprise!!
Another surprise… I LOVE IT!!  Now I understand everyone’s need to buy a
different running skirt for each race ;)

I drove the 1 hour trek to Columbus and was immediately SO glad I had prepaid to park at a specific location!!  Seriously… if you have the option to prepay for parking for a race… DO IT!!!Streets were closed everywhere and traffic was backed up majorly!  While I was at a stand still I was texting back and forth with my fiancé before he had to go to work.  So by the time I parked and walked to the starting location I had about 15 minutes before go time!! lol… nothing like cutting it short! ;)  BTW, I had to pee so bad!! lol…

Well I stopped at the first port-a-pot because I thought that if I just got in a line quickly, it would be my best bet… well after waiting for about 6 minutes I decided enough was enough and started walking towards my corral… funny thing… the lines for the port-a-pots by Corral C were empty! haha… lesson learned! ;)

227229_10150181203764709_76129624708_6755288_6537637_n

I got to my corral and actually found J and her boyfriend which was surprising due to the amount of people that were there!  This was the biggest race I’ve EVER been to!  It was quite exciting!  I squeezed in beside them just in time for the national anthem and then they started each corral 30 seconds apart… 3-2-1… GO!!

We started out and it was pretty crowded still even though we had a tapered start.  It did end up spacing out quite a bit after mile 4 or so… I don’t really remember anything specific for each mile or anything like that so I’ll just post some things in general…

I ran with J and her boyfriend for about the first 5 miles BUT we started out faster than I wanted to go… I didn’t want to die before mile 6 and I wanted to have fun during this race…I ran my first half marathon last September with an average pace of 10:10 and this race so far, we had been running 8 something miles lol… um… all I kept thinking was “my 5k splits are 8 something miles!! haha… SLOOOOOOWWWW DOWWWNNNNNNN!!!”  Remember how I told you all, that due to my lack of training because of my crazy busy life right now I was forgoing my goal of a sub 2 hour half marathon?  yes… it’s sad, but I was happy with myself that I realized this and knew not to push too hard and end up hurting myself.  I told J to go on ahead because I was pulling up a little… I wanted to just run for fun and I couldn’t do that if I was constantly worrying about burning out or hurting myself.

capcity11

I don’t remember exactly when I took my GUs but I remember that I took 3 of them along the course of the race and I grabbed water at EVERY water station and whatever endurance drink they had at about 3 stations… it had warmed up quite a bit and the rain was holding off.

I had brought my IPod along but never ended up turning it on… there were so many bands and DJs and spectators along the course that I was having a blast without it and I didn’t realize it til about 1 mile left to go because it was cutting the circulation off in my arm so I took it off and held it the last mile. I loved giving all the little kids high fives because they thought this was the most exciting thing ever to watch and cheer for!

capcity7

… I saw a banana with a “Don’t Poop…. out” sign lol…(the pic is taken from the capcityhalf fb page) and I saw a charlie sheen poster that said “everyone’s a winner!”  (or something like that) and also one of my faves  “humpty dumpty had wall issues too” lol

223289_10150181215469709_76129624708_6755448_7905726_n

I don’t ever remember having any negative thoughts during this race at all… I remember thinking that I felt really good for the lack of training I’d had and thinking to myself that I would definitely PR this race… and then as I got closer to the finish line I realized that I was going to be really close to my goal time without really trying for it! lol… I was very surprised at myself… there were a few miles that I felt like slowing down but I took inventory on how everything was feeling… how my chest/heart were feeling because I didn’t want to have a repeat of last September, and everything felt good, so I made myself keep a somewhat steady pace those last 3 miles… although they were slower than the previous miles…

capcity9

Right before the finish line was a hill… but after the hill it was all down hill to the finish!  I LOVED that!!  I had such a fun time… and I ran most of it by myself… no family there to cheer me on… and that was perfectly ok!  I never ended up meeting back up with J… I ended up being able to see them ahead of me for most of the race… til about 3 miles left… anyways… I sprinted down that incline to the finish because I was so proud of myself and my time!!  I was so close to my goal… but it didn’t bother me like I thought it would… I HAD A BLAST!!!

After crossing the finish line and receiving my most favoritest medal EVER… I grabbed a bagel, water, muscle milk (i had never tried it before and it was better than i had thought it would be) and then after I cooled down a little bit, I grabbed some donatos pizza and headed over to the Brooks Cavalcade of Curiosities to get my gait analyzed… I guess I’m a moderate pronator and have a med-high arch… anyone want to kind of explain what this means and how to fix it? lol…  I guess I’ll have to do my research…

228476_10150182547817500_166951472499_6756747_3185813_n

After all that fun stuff I went back up to the top of the hill before the downhill finish to cheer people on and that was so much fun… just the look on people’s faces when I cheered for them by name and told them they could do it, finish strong, it’s really all downhill from here… it was awesome!  After I cheered for a good 20 minutes, I walked back to my car and found that I hadn’t been alone at all… My fiancé and family were all cheering for me by text messages during my race!!  I have awesome support and I’m so blessed… The text from my fiancé made me tear up…

He basically just told me to keep going strong, that I was almost finished, and that he loved me… so simple, but meant the world to me!

I loved every single moment of this race!!  It was rather emotional for me too… I don’t really understand why… watching all the people after me finish… how emotional they were… I DID PR by 10 minutes, so that was awesome… and being by myself kinda did get to me a little bit, I’m not gonna lie… so I guess that all wraps up into one emotional race… Registration for the Capital City Half Marathon opens June 1st… and you better believe I will be registering for this race again!

Today, I worked (bleh… rather be running in this great weather), then I picked up some wedding cake books from the library because I don’t have any clue if I want a round cake or a square one lol!  Come to think of it, you can send me pictures of your wedding cake too! ;)  Then, I dropped off my car at sears to get 4 brand spankin new tires and an oil change because I’m gonna be commuting back and forth 50 minutes both ways to get to school here in oh… 11 days!!  Wow!! I’m so excited to go back to school! :)

DSC01473

After that I picked up 22 round table cloths for my reception because I had a coupon, BUT I got a better coupon at checkout so I’m going to return them and buy them again to save money.  Does anyone else do this or am I seriously the only tightwad in blogland?!  And THEN… I registered for some items at one of our favorite stores… it was kinda hard to keep in mind that we aren’t going to have our own house and space after we’re married… so that made registering a little difficult. (If you want to read more background on our situation, CLICK HERE).   I did register for a nice video camera… only because if it’s left on our registry after the wedding, we get a discount on whatever’s left!

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen on a registry, or had on your own registry?

2010 Christmas Card Swap

Ok, so I had a lot of you say that my idea for the swap was a fun idea and would definitely join!  So, it’s official!  2010 Christmas Card Swap is now underway!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Depending on how many people sign up, I will divide you all into groups of 5 or more people.  You will send a Christmas card to all the people in your group, and will be receiving cards from the people in your group.  Let’s say you are put in a group with X,Y,Z…  You will send cards to X, Y, and Z and will receive a card from X, Y, and Z.  Make sense?! Good! :)
Your cards can be store bought or handmade and you can feel free to add a little something to the card like your favorite running quote, running advice, candy, a little ornament, a sticker, a note of encouragement or a funny note, or you can just send the card… Whatever you want to do is PERFECT!  Just don’t be sending pairs of running shoes, an Ipod, or a free entry to Boston (unless you’re sending it to me)  We want to keep this cheap so everyone can join and doesn’t feel bad for just sending a card!   :)
After everyone is put into their groups I will be sending out an email including your group members ONLY with their blog links (so you can get to know them if you don’t already) and addresses so that there’s still a bit of privacy and everyone’s addresses aren’t out there floating around on the internet somewhere!  Safety people!!  :D   The groups will be picked by Random.org so we keep things mixed up!
I will be adding people to a list at the bottom of this page as they sign up…  So, if you sign up and for some reason, do not see your name on the list after a couple days… just shoot me an email and we’ll get it taken care of!
If you can think of anything that I may have left out, let me know!  Let’s get this PARTY STARTED!!!  You are welcome to invite your friends!  All are welcome! :)  Feel free to put the logo on your blog and link it back to this page as an invite to other bloggers! AND YES, international bloggers are welcome to join!!!
Wanted: Thoughts and Opinions
I’m not clever by any means, but I thought that with all my time spent at work, I’d “blog” on paper on my break and then just retype it when I got home so I could save some time and be able to do other things in the evening… genius right?!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the radio stations I usually listen to is playing Christmas music.  Not only on weekends, but 24/7!  Don’t get me wrong… Christmas is my most favorite holiday, but I do not listen to Christmas music until Thanksgiving OR the first snow.  (Whichever comes first)  With 72 degree, sunny weather, it’s hard to even think about snow!  BUT… all the Christmas music and holiday store decor has got me thinkin’.

In the knitting community (yes, I knit AND crochet… lay off the old lady jokes) we do these things called swaps.  They usually have a theme and a price limit and then everyone gets partnered up and they send each other goodies.  Seriously… this is a HUGE deal on Ravelry!!**

So I figured, why not try out a little swap-like action in the running community?!  My idea is to “swap” Christmas cards…  Depending on how many participants we had, I would break it up into groups and everyone in that group would send everyone else in their group a Christmas card.  That’s why I want your thoughts… I would love to hear if you all would be interested in doing something like this or if you think it’s kind of stupid…  If I get atleast 5 people that say they’re interested I’ll go ahead and get the details put together and make it official.

So… What do you think?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ok, so this isn’t the rest of my race report but it kinda sorta does have something to do with my first half marathon and this past week.  I’ll start out by telling you about a sad sight/experience I had as I was getting ready to leave the race last Saturday.

My parents and I were walking towards the parking lot and were walking along the finishing stretch… I was cheering on everyone I could by name since it was on their bibs.  I was still feeling a little out of it and totally happy and excited about what I had just accomplished!  Then I saw it… an ambulance.  As we got closer I could see that someone had collapsed less than 100 yards from the finish line!  The medics were desperately trying to give her CPR and get her to breathe!  They were giving her CPR for what seemed like forever and finally put her in the squad and raced her to the Nashville hospital.

All I could keep thinking was “This is supposed to be a happy day!”  It was sad and unexpected and something I had never seen before… it was very scary.  I thought about her and prayed for her throughout the day and couldn’t get that image out of my head.  It was later confirmed that she had passed away!  Why God?  She had family cheering her on, she was healthy and volunteered her time and was making a difference in other people’s lives!  I don’t know why it was her time to go but it got me thinking.

First, I had never been so grateful that I had had my heart tested in the week leading up to my first half marathon!  Yes, that could have been anyone out there, including me!  So, please, if you haven’t had a physical or had your heart looked at and are running… GO GET IT CHECKED OUT!!  It’s worth spending the money in the end to make sure you will still be alive to share your special memories with family and friends!

Also, I have been taking a lot of things for granted including my relationship with God.  He has blessed me with so much and I have so many things to be thankful for!  I am healthy and getting stronger!  I have parents who would and do help me out if they can and will make an effort to come to things and support me when it matters the most.  I have siblings that although at times can annoy me, are there for me if I am having a bad day (most of the time).  I have a boyfriend who supports me in anything I do and can see past my faults.  I have jobs that keep me on my feet financially and a degree that I can fall back on if I need to.  I have a brain that works properly and motivation to keep me going when things get hard.  I have an awesome GOD who created me and all these wonderful people I have in my life and is there for me when I feel the world is crashing down all around me.

The list goes on and on… but I am so thankful for everything!  This week has been an eye opener and I continue to pray for that lady’s family.  Don’t take things for granted!  Tell people in your life how important they are and how much you love them!

Any day can be thanksgiving day… what are you thankful for?

Delayed Winner and Some Comments

Well, I didn’t exactly get to post a winner from my CLIF Bar giveaway this weekend like I thought I would be able to.  Just let me tell you… my weekend was AWESOME!!!  It’s going to take a little while for me to compile a recap of my weekend so for now I’ll leave you with a winner and some comments on some of the comments that were left on my last couple of posts!

Also, welcome to my new followers!  I now have 69!!  Thanks for joining me in my journey!  Without further delays… out of 40 comments random.org chose…………

CLIFbar winner

#11 – Forward Foot Strides
CONGRATS  KATHERINE!!!!

Send me an email with your address and what 3 flavors you would like to
receive at runners.luck@hotmail.com and I’ll get your package out in the mail sometime this week!

Now… I would like to comment on some of the comments you all left on my last couple of posts!

On “Reactivated”:

Wells L (comment here) – I thought of you as I ran this past Saturday!!  Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and I cannot wait to read your recap of your first half marathon!

Quinton J (comment here) – That is not the GU they sent me… I ordered that!  They sent me 4 packets to try out in exchange for  a review on my blog.

Rae (comment here) – I got my shorts online… here is the link!  They do ride up quite a bit… I never found it very annoying in training… but in my half marathon, they did come up quite a bit and i seemed to notice it more… but they are cute and comfortable otherwise!

On “Random Things on Thursday”:

Barefoot Neil Z (comment here) – haha!  I have read almost half of “Born to Run” and although it is an awesome book so far and very inspiring… I did not win the race on Saturday! ;)  Oh… and I did not run barefoot NOR in sandals and I stayed away from the corn beer!

Silly Girl Running (comment here) AND Rae (comment here) – Do your bears have names?

Quinton J (comment here) – 2.  I was in 5th grade on a co-gender team and a boy got mad at me cuz i always beat him in suicides and we were sprinting to the baseline on the last stretch of a suicide and he pushed me into the brick wall… I ended up missing 3 months of school and having many surgeries on my mouth to fix my teeth.  He never said he was sorry, but I forgave him anyways.  5. I hope you pay that poor old woman back after your debts are taken care of! ;)

Pam (comment here) – The weather was wonderful while I was in Nashville!  It didn’t start getting hot until the last few mile when we were out in the direct sun!

Wells L (comment here) – You are too sweet!  I’m glad you are a blog friend and truly enjoy reading your posts and comments!

Thank You! (Clif Bar Giveaway)

Well, as many of you know, I went through somewhat of a downer the past couple of weeks.  If you are a new follower (wow! 53 already?) let me recap for you!

I started feeling bad last Monday (9/6) and ended up in the ER Thursday evening with chest pain and shortness of breath

Friday morning I had a cardiologist appointment

Laid around feeling sorry for myself because I wasn’t allowed running on Saturday and my boyfriend took me out Sunday for a fun 3D movie date to take my mind off of it

Finally, on Wednesday, I got my heart exams scheduled at the hospital

Had my echo-stress test yesterday (Thursday 9/16) and got great news! :D

I am feeling a lot better today and have decided to rest over the weekend and get rid of it completely (hopefully) and start running on Monday!!

Phew… that should catch you up about this whole fiasco!  So yesterday, I kinda felt silly after going in for a test and it coming back that my heart is healthy and it was nothing but a chest cold and lack of sleep.  BUT I guess it’s always a good idea to get checked out before you start a new sport/exercise anyways right?

Well, after each time that I posted an update on my health, you all would leave such fun, uplifting, caring comments!  I would thank you in the next post for being so wonderful and that it meant a lot to me that you all were helping me through the past couple of weeks, and not making me feel like an idiot for being scared about nothing!  But, surely, I could do a little something extra for you all since you were thinking of me and praying for me, right?!

Well, Josh, a representative from Giveaway Scout had contacted me a couple weeks ago about adding my blog to their site and I didn’t think anything of it since I just started blogging and hadn’t had a giveaway.  Well, I remembered it when I was thinking of what I could do, and seeing that I have a lovely LONG list of giveaways on my right sidebar already, I thought “why not do a giveaway?!  Everyone loves giveaways!”  So, that’s what I’m doing!

**If you don’t know what giveaway scout is check them out HERE!  Basically it’s a website that has a list of TONS of giveaways across Internet Land and scans submitted blogs for giveaways to post on their site.  Kinda cool!

As I was sidelined from running, I decided to go food shopping because lets face it… I LOVE TO EAT!  And yes, I sometimes use food as comfort!  So, feeling like going on an adventure, I decided to mosey (one of my fave words) on over to the “health” aisle and I saw all sorts of bars, energy bars, meal replacement bars, fruit bars, chocolate bars, protein bars…. it seriously took me a while to figure out that I wanted to try one of these bars and which one it should be… well, the 10 for $10 sale on Clif Bars kinda won out! (click the words to go to the site)

I didn’t get to try them out before a run, but I did eat a couple crunchy peanut butter bars just because, and they were delicious and not hard to bite into or chew like a lot of other bars I’ve tried!  In fact, I liked them so much I went back for more!  Now I want to share a new found favorite with you guys!

So thank you so much you guys for being so supportive! You guys are SERIOUSLY AWESOME!! :D

Up for grabs is THREE Clif Bars of the winner’s choice (as long as they have that flavor available at my local grocery store).
