Well, I had an appointment with a cardiologist this morning after spending yesterday evening at the ER. He could see me around 11 this morning so I went in and hardly had to wait at all out in the waiting room. I told him about my training and how it was important to me that I be able to run my half if I am allowed to and listened to my heart and lungs.
Then came the bad news… tomorrow’s 5 mile race (which I was so excited about) is out of the question. Basically, I have to get 2 tests done: a halter monitor for 48 hours to monitor my heart, and a treadmill cardio exam. But, the only words that my brain can seem to remember and the ones that keep echoing through my head are “no running, or training, until we can get these tests done!” Say what?! I mean, the shortness of breath and chest pain can totally be anxiety for my first half marathon right?! So, it only makes sense that to get better, I’d have to keep running… right?! RIGHT?!!
*sigh* Well, I wish everyone luck tomorrow at the 5 mile race and do well Cynthia! I shall probably see you again at another local 5k race in the future! Right now, I’m trying to tell my heart to hurry up and heal and trying to make myself go to bed earlier and drink plenty of fluids. Hopefully the hospital calls to schedule my exams and I can get them taken care of this week… because there is only 2 weeks left til my first half marathon! (1 of which is a taper week) So there’s still hope!
At this point, I’m trying to stay positive, but I know I will be completely crushed if it turns out to be more than I’m hoping it is and I can’t run my first half marathon in Tennessee! So please, continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers! I really appreciate you all and your comments of well wishes! I continue to be surprised at how much support the blogging world has given me in the short month I have been here! So thank you! You all are appreciated and you all truly do inspire me!
Take care of yourself first. Running will always be there waiting at the door for you. No matter what!
ReplyDeleteI was at a concert tonight and thought of you and said a little prayer in my heart for you. I hope they found out what's wrong soon and it's not too serious.

ReplyDeleteHeart problems can be scary. I had some some heart tests last year and it just seemed as if the doctor ordered one test and then another and then another and another and all the while I was thinking "I have to train" and "I don't want a heart problem" which combined probably caused more anxiety than anything else. Hang in there. You have to take care of you! I'm with Barefoot Neil - running will always be there! Hang in there, chica!
Oh wow, just getting caught up on your last post & this one... Wow, that is scary. i am glad you went to the doctor as heart/chest pain/problems are def something to get checked. I know it is frustrating to be told that you can't run when running has probably become 'your drug'. But there will always be another 1/2 marathon... So it's best to get this looked into and figured out first... I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. Definitely saying prayers for you!! Please keep us posted!!
ReplyDeletehalf marathons are always going to be there, and truthfully if you ran while not 100% you'd end up being more disappointed than if you wait to run one when you're good and ready for it. take care of you and then see what running has to offer.
ReplyDeleteYou follow those directions! Be good to yourself and take care of yourself!
ReplyDeletePraying for you. Keep us updated. I hope you pass all your tests and are able to do you half in two weeks. Hopefully your body is just in need of some rest right now. Take good care!
ReplyDeleteHang in there!!! Listen to the doctor and your body....happy that you went to a specialist now...sending positive vibes your way!
ReplyDeletePlease take good care of yourself and listen to the doc! Running will wait; get better first!
ReplyDeleteHope you are able to do your half! Take care of yourself hun and whatevers meant to be will be :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other posters, you need to take care of yourself first. Listen to your doctor and take it easy until you get the right tests done. I know it sucks that you can't run right now and I can only imagine how frustrating that must be. But, you don't want to do anything that could potentially make something worse. Rest, rest, and get better!
ReplyDeleteRemember, there are always more races. Take care of yourself first. I'm thinking about you and praying for you!
ReplyDeleteAw man, what a bummer. I will continue to have positive thoughts for you - both on the half marathon and your health overall!

Hang in there! I hope you can get those tests done soon. You are in my thoughts for sure!
ReplyDeleteZaneta, praying it is absolutely nothing...just a little anxiety. Better to be safe then sorry. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I will definitely pray- not just that you can run the half, but that they find out what's wrong and that it's nothing serious. I mean, heart problems are nothing to play around with, and as much as it sucks not to be able to do a race, there are always others, but you only have one heart! But hopefully they will get you in for tests this week, find out what's wrong, and you can do the half! Not being able to run definitely sucks, but trust me, once the doctors let you again, you will love it SOOO much more just because you realize how much you miss it when you can't *hugs*.
