Wordless Wednesday: Test FB Page Edition

Well, “mostly” wordless… I’m trying my hand at a facebook page… we’ll see how it goes… maybe I'll keep it, maybe not ;)

The VERY “Magic Mile”

I was reading some articles online about running and came across an article on Runner’s World HERE that talked about a Magic Mile… What in the world is that?!  and … why is it so magical?!  Of course I was intrigued and opened the article to read more…

Apparently, you can run a mile, as fast as you can and predict your race finishing times and find out what paces you should be training at. According to Jeff Galloway anyways… ;)  From THIS ARTICLE:

The Magic Mile will help determine:
     1. If the goal pace is realistic.
     2. How much improvement can be expected, and whether someone is on track to
         meet the goal.
     3. Running the Magic Mile takes the guesswork out of goal setting. This often
involved putting the reins on the ego, which will talk the person into goals that are
         not within their current capabilities.
     4. These formulas will allow one to predict race time by running a timed mile.
     5. During the training season, the group will run a Magic Mile on a set schedule,
        depending on the training goal.

Well now of course I just had to try it… DUH! ;)  And if you want to try it too… here are some articles you can read and a video of Jeff Galloway explaining it to you:

Article #1
Article #2
Article #3

Basically, you run a 1 mile warm up and then complete some strides and then run around the track for a mile (4 laps in case you’ve never been to a track before) as fast as you can and time how long it takes you.  Afterwards you can run how many ever miles you have left to run that day or a 1 mile cool down, then plug your results into THIS AWESOME TOOL and voila it gives you a list of paces to expect for training and races…

Last night, it was too dark and too late by the time I was able to workout to go to the track, so I decided to try this Magic Mile on the treadmill… even though the articles I had read said that a treadmill was not the best option…  I started out with a .60 mile warm up and then ran my first Magic Mile in 8:07.  Not what I wanted… but it’s a reality check… also I'm blaming the stupid treadmill for needing to slowly increase it’s pace at the beginning ;) lol… Afterwards, I did some weights and for my “cool down” rode the bike for 20 minutes.

Here’s what my results were:

MM1results2

Have you ever run a Magic Mile?

If so, do you think the results are pretty accurate?

Do you think this is a training must? Why or Why not?

If you haven’t, do you want to now?  You know you do… it’s magical! ;)

Thursday’s Long Run

Thursday when I got home from school, it was sunny and 65 degrees and I knew it was supposed to get colder and rainy this weekend so instead of waiting to do my long run, I decided to get it out of the way in the gorgeous weather!  I’m so glad I did, it was such a great run… a little slower than I would have liked, but great none-the-less and it’s been raining all weekend!!  WINNING!! :)

I ran 8.0 miles at a pace of 11:14/mile which came out to a 1:29:57 run.  It was quite a hilly course so I ended up walking up a little ways on some of the hills… yeah, i know I’m a wimp… but I thought it was still pretty good for not having done the time to train for my half up to now… (2 weeks from yesterday!! EEK!)  Here’s the stats from my long run (you can click it to make it bigger if you want:

After I got back home from my run I took an ice bath (still trying to get rid of my annoying knee pain) while drinking one of my husband’s myoplex lite chocolate recovery drinks (don’t tell him! ;)  haha)  It was actually kinda tasty and has A LOT of good vitamins and minerals and like 20 grams of protein :)

Have you ever tried Myoplex? What did you think?

How far was your long run this week?

Do you always do your long run on the weekend or do you change it up sometimes and do it on a weekday/night?

The New Blogger Look

So, if you use blogger, you might have noticed that they have changed the way your dashboard looks.  It now looks like this:

New Blogger Look

AND… you may have noticed that the Google Friend Connect is still on your blog:

blogfollowers

So my question, or questionS to you is/are:

~ Do you like the new look? Why or why not?

~Isn’t Friend Connect supposed to be leaving or am I just misinformed?

~ If blogger is getting rid of it, what have you done to let other people know how to follow you? Is there something like Google Friend Connect that you can add to your blog?

Knee Pain

My knee has been hurting lately and I can’t figure it out… it’s been hurting for the past month and my workout streak 2 weeks ago didn’t help any so I decided to take some time off from running and tried to ride a Bike on a trainer for some cardio instead even though I have a half marathon coming up on May 5th.  I actually enjoyed the bike and think that as soon as I can get my knee feeling a little better and get back to running again, I will keep it as part of my Cross Training routine! :)

Wordless Wednesday: Shower Pictures

Remember the post where I showed you all my hard work for my twin’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” bridal shower?  If not, it can be found HERE. So, it’s been a little longer than expected, but here are the pictures from the shower.  My twin really appreciated it and had fun, so it was all worth it :)  She’s getting married next month and I’m excited for her!!  It’s been almost a year (June 25th) since my wedding so I know how excited she is! :)  ok, that was a lot of words for a Wordless Wednesday lol… on to the pictures!

Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend

This time last week I was sitting in a 9 hour long class and then coming home to work on some stuff for my twin’s ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ themed bridal shower (Audrey Hepburn)…  (yeah, I’ve never seen the movie, but I think I did pretty good lol)  I can’t remember if I told you all that she was getting married in May or not…. Well, “My twin is getting married in May” haha… there ya go! ;)  So I put together all the centerpieces:

DSC03351

Here colors are blue and silver and the Calla Lily is her wedding flower and then the pearls and diamonds are related to the “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Movie.  If you know the movie at all, you know that Audrey wears a sleep mask that looks like this:

So I decided to make my twin a mask for her shower:

Then I had some extra pearls from the string of pearls I had cut all the decorations from and decided to make myself a necklace to wear to the shower the next day to “stay in character” lol:

And then I also put together two games for the shower and by that time I was so exhausted from the day that I went to bed.   I’ll post pictures from the shower either later today or tomorrow sometime… it was a fun time and my twin really enjoyed it! :)  I’m so glad she did!  I’m excited for her!  Being a newlywed myself, I know how exciting of a time this is for her! :)

Running related note:  I didn’t post my weekly roundup last week because well… remember my streak? … it ended lol… last week was a hectic one at school and with getting everything prepared for the shower, also, my knee has been hurting lately… not so fun… so I rode the bike for 35 minutes last Monday and that was it. :(

Going Streakin’

I made it a goal to workout everyday last week… and I did it!!! In fact… I just completed Day #8 in my workout streak! :)  I feel awesome!!  A little bit tired because I haven’t been going to bed at a decent time and my body isn’t used to so much exercise thanks to 16 hour long school days last quarter… but it really does feel awesome! lol… I’m looking forward to keepin’ the streak alive! :)  My body is a little sore, but it’s a good sore… the kind that lets me know I’m getting stronger!  Speaking of which… this song has been stuck in my head all week!! lol… enjoy!
